Robert and Trix Haussmann are an architect and design team based in Zurich, Switzerland. The present candlesticks were created in 1986 and manufactured by Swid Powell tableware company of New York City. With their simple, geometric, inverted step-design, the candlesticks harken back to early twentieth-century designs of the modernist and Bauhaus movements that greatly influence the duo’s style. A similar candlestick can be found in the Yale University Art Gallery, New Haven, Connecticut; and is published in Annette Tapert’s book “Swid Powell Objects by Architects.”
