    Liaigre, Christian (French, 1943-2020)

Originally from La Rochelle, France, Christian Liaigre studied in Paris at École des Beaux-Arts and later at École des Arts Décoratifs. After working alongside his grandfather breeding champion racehorses, Liaigre’s design style was influenced by the hand-stitched leather of horse saddles and the natural, rich colors found in the equestrian world.

Liaigre opened his first showroom in 1980, showcasing his modern style that quickly gained popularity for its refined, minimalist aesthetic- highlighting beautifully crafted furniture and objects made in materials like wood, bronze, and leather. All of his pieces are all made in France by artisans and craftsmen working in age-old traditions, such as hand brushed wood, hand-stitched leather, and cast bronze patina- a technique that dates back centuries.
