Celebrated still-life photographer Eileen Quinlan views her photography as mirror of the world around her rather than a window looking out to it. By taking detail shots of carefully composed commonplace objects and materials, Quinlan transforms small-scale details into complex abstract compositions with an emphasis on light and shadow. Originally from Boston, Massachusetts, Quinlan earned her Masters in Fine Art from Columbia University, New York in 2005 and had her first solo museum show not long after in 2009 at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. She has exhibited extensively throughout her career, including at Kunstverein für die Rheinlande und Westfalen, Düsseldorf, Germany; MUMOK, Vienna, Austria; Lafayette Anticipations, Paris, France; Venice Biennale and throughout the United States, including Museum of Modern Art, New York; and Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, California. Her artwork is included in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Guggenheim Museum, and Brooklyn Museum of Art, New York; the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois as well as international collections in Germany, France, and Austria.
