The artwork of William Wood embodies a rich, painterly aesthetic that often depicting complex rhythmic patterns and tactile textures. Wood explores working with unusual materials such as house paint, wax, gesso and newsprint in combination with more conventional media such as oil, acrylic and inks. The artist sometimes uses digital photography to manipulate and magnify images to first achieve his vision, which he then in turn translates into paint.
Originally from Huntington, New York, Wood studied at Manhattan College, and at the School of Visual Arts, New York. Wood has exhibited globally with solo shows throughout the United States, Canada, Germany, Belgium and Greece. His work is found in important public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. The artist currently lives and works in New York City.
